EDP Lisbon Half Marathon
Lisbon, Lisbon, PT
Why this race belongs on a competitive runner's shortlist
Lisbon has record-level half-marathon history, SuperHalfs visibility, and a course designed for speed after its distinctive bridge start. The organizer expects 20,000 participants and provides detailed start transport and support information, which gives the page clear practical value.
Course overview
General participants start on the 25 de Abril Bridge, run north toward Lisbon, continue along the riverside to Cruz Quebrada, and return to the finish near the Jeronimos Monastery. The current map is from 2026 and may receive minor 2027 adjustments, so exact turns should be verified near race day.
Miles 1 to 4
The bridge start creates an unusual opening. Expect a broad initial descent into Lisbon after the high start, plus crowding and exposure. Keep the first kilometers controlled and avoid overstriding downhill. The goal is to arrive on the riverside with stable breathing, not with time already borrowed from the second half.
Miles 5 to 8
The course settles along the Tagus and heads toward the western turn. This is the best section for smooth goal pace, but wind can change the cost quickly. Run by effort if exposed, take fluids without a sharp detour, and hold position in a group only when its rhythm matches yours.
Miles 9 to 13.1
After the turn near Cruz Quebrada, the course heads back toward Belem and the Jeronimos finish. The closing profile is favorable for a progression if the wind cooperates. Start squeezing pace after 15 kilometers, then save the full commitment for the final 3 kilometers.
Elevation checkpoints and how to read them
The defining elevation feature is the high bridge start followed by the drop toward the riverside. The remaining course is much flatter. The official page does not publish a reliable text table of exact mile elevations, so use the current organizer map for the bridge descent and avoid third-party estimates.
Aid stations and race-day logistics
The race starts at 9:30 on March 7, 2027. Participants must use Fertagus trains to reach Pragal and the bridge start; spectators cannot access the bridge. The organizer lists seven supply stations, nine toilet areas, and two medical-support stations. There is no participant bag-drop service.
Practical pacing plan
Keep the bridge descent under control, settle into goal rhythm on the riverside, and base the final progression on wind direction after the turnaround. A fast first 5 kilometers can be legitimate here, but only when it comes from the descent at controlled effort.
