Why this race belongs on a competitive runner's shortlist
Prague is for scenery-first runners who still want an event with World Athletics Elite Label standing. The race starts and finishes in Old Town Square, crosses Charles Bridge, and follows the Vltava past Prague Castle views, the National Theatre, and Vysehrad. Cobbles, bridge ramps, tight turns, and narrow streets interrupt rhythm, so the appeal is a memorable historic route rather than the cleanest possible pacing course.
Course overview
Prague starts and finishes in Old Town Square on a river-centered route with repeated crossings and returns. The opening reaches Charles Bridge, then follows the Vltava through Karlin and back past Powder Tower, Wenceslas Square, and the National Theatre. The second half passes Vysehrad, crosses Legion Bridge, and repeats the northern river roads before Old Town. The model totals 90 m of ascent, almost all from short bridge ramps, underpasses, cobbles, and transitions off the embankment.
Kilometers 0 to 10
Old Town Square leads to Charles Bridge at 2.8 km, a Prague Castle view, the Rudolfinum at 3.8 km, and Karlin near 9.3 km. Short bridge ramps create most early elevation change. Water is at 4 and 8.5 km, with Gatorade and fruit at 6.8 km; settle after the cobbles before taking fuel.
Kilometers 10 to 21.1
The route passes Powder Tower at 13.2 km, Wenceslas Square at 13.6 km, the National Theatre at 14.5 km, Dancing House at 15.2 km, and Nusle Bridge near 18 km. Full stations are at 10.4 and 15.9 km, with water at 13.5 and 18.1 km. Fuel before the bridge and keep cadence compact on the short rises.
Kilometers 21.1 to 32
After Vysehrad around 21.3 km, the course follows level Vltava roads before reaching Legion Bridge near 31.5 km and the National Theatre again. Water is at 23.7 and 28.2 km, with full stations at 26.2 and 30.5 km. Complete the main fuel before the bridge ramp and let pace return on the far side.
Kilometers 32 to 42.2
The final loop passes the Rudolfinum at 32.5 km, Karlin near 38.7 km, and returns to Old Town Square. Repeated riverside turns add the remaining small rises. Water is at 33.5 and 37.9 km, with full stations at 36.2 and 39.7 km; use the last full station, then commit once the route turns back toward Old Town.
Elevation checkpoints and how to read them
The route model totals 90 m of ascent and 90 m of descent, with no net change and an organizer-profile band of roughly 180 to 213 m. The climbing comes from short bridge ramps, river underpasses, and repeated transitions between the Vltava embankments and the historic center rather than one sustained hill; Charles Bridge, Legion Bridge, and the late riverside turns are the pacing checkpoints.
Aid stations and race-day logistics
Water points are at 4, 8.5, 13.5, 18.1, 23.7, 28.2, 33.5, and 37.9 km. Full stations at 6.8, 10.4, 15.9, 21.1, 26.2, 30.5, 36.2, and 39.7 km add Gatorade, fruit, salt, and sugar. For the Old Town Square start, use Mustek metro on lines A or B, Staromestska on line A, or the tram to Vaclavske namesti. Bag drop runs from 06:00 to 16:00 in the lower Wenceslas Square technical area; the bib is not a public-transport ticket.
Practical pacing plan
Hold back over the Charles Bridge cobbles and ramps before settling on the Vltava roads. Keep effort steady through the historic-center turns and cap the short Nusle Bridge rise. Rain can make cobbles and tram tracks slick, while wind along the river can slow both directions. Use Legion Bridge as the final hold point. Push only after the last riverside turns, when Old Town Square is close enough to sustain the effort.
Historical weather pattern
Historically, race-month temperatures in Prague have ranged from about 31.5°F to 72°F, with winds around 4.3 to 9.1 mph and measurable precipitation on 61.4% of sampled days. Conditions can change, so check the race-week forecast before you travel and again before race morning.
