Generali Málaga Marathon

Why this race belongs on a competitive runner's shortlist

A Costa del Sol marathon with a same-place Paseo del Parque start and finish, a harbor excursion, eastern beaches, a La Rosaleda loop and a long western seafront return. The organizer describes its newer route as flatter and less twisty; the current rules offer frequent late aid. Important tradeoff: the 2026 course page still links a 2025 map, whose aid positions differ from 2026 regulations. It suits runners wanting a Mediterranean city marathon. The 2026 event date is verified; the currently linked detailed course and ascent below are the 2025 reference and remain subject to final federation-approved changes.

Course overview

Currently linked 2025 single urban loop with eastern and western out-and-backs;2026 rules retain the same Paseo del Parque start/finish. The start is Paseo del Parque, opposite University of Málaga Rectorate and the finish is Paseo del Parque, opposite University of Málaga Rectorate. The route takes in Paseo del Parque, Puente de la Aurora, La Farola / cruise terminal, Pedregalejo and El Palo, La Rosaleda, Playa de la Misericordia, Martín Carpena sports complex, Paseo del Parque. Low coastal roads with modest undulations, an inland rise toward La Rosaleda around km 23 to 25, and a gentle climb back into the center near the finish.

0 to 10 km

The 0 to 10 km interval includes Puente de la Aurora, La Farola, Cruise terminal, Playa de la Malagueta. Go&Race 2025 modeled profile reaches sea level around km 7.9 on the port section, then rises roughly 11 m over km 9 to 10. 2026 rules: water and isotonic drink at km 5 and 10. Do not import the older map's 9.5 km station. Keep the port out-and-back controlled and allow for the small rise returning from the cruise terminal.

10 to 21 km

The 10 to 21 km interval includes Baños del Carmen, Pedregalejo, El Palo, Playa La Caleta. Go&Race model has mostly single-digit to teens altitude on the eastern coast, with about 9 m rise over km 15 to 16 and 11 m over km 20 to 21. 2026 rules: water/isotonic at 15, 18 and 21 km; solids at selected stations from 15 km onward, with exact solid menu not assigned. Maintain effort through the east-coast turn and do not sprint toward the half-marathon finish zone.

21 to 30 km

The 21 to 30 km interval includes La Rosaleda, Puente Rosaleda, Iglesia de Santo Domingo, Western waterfront. Model rises from 13 m at 23 km to around 20 m at 24 to 25 km near La Rosaleda, then drops toward about 5 m by 30 km. 2026 rules: water/isotonic at 25, 27.5 and 30 km, with solids at some later stations; old map's 226 ERS claim at 30 km is 2025 only. Hold effort on the inland approach to La Rosaleda and let pace return naturally on the descent toward the west coast.

30 to 42.195 km

The 30 to 42.195 km interval includes Playa de la Misericordia, Palacio de Deportes Martín Carpena, Estadio de Atletismo Ciudad de Málaga, Paseo del Parque. Go&Race models the western 30 to 38 km section at roughly 1 to 8 m, then a modest rise from 6 m at 40 km to 14 m at 42 km. 2026 water/isotonic stations at 32.5, 35, 37.5 and 40 km; selected stations have solids. Avoid substituting old map's 32 and 37 km values. Save enough for the return from the sports complex and the gentle rise into central Málaga.

Elevation checkpoints and how to read them

Total ascent is 117 m. Wikiloc modeled/displayed total on the organizer-linked 2025 track by Atletismo Málaga:384 ft ascent and 384 ft descent, converted at 0.3048 m/ft and rounded to 117 m. Algorithm not disclosed. Separate Go&Race model supplies interval elevations; do not combine its totals with Wikiloc. Practical pacing plan

Keep the port out-and-back controlled and allow for the small rise returning from the cruise terminal. Maintain effort through the east-coast turn and do not sprint toward the half-marathon finish zone. Hold effort on the inland approach to La Rosaleda and let pace return naturally on the descent toward the west coast. Save enough for the return from the sports complex and the gentle rise into central Málaga. Push only while effort and form remain controlled. Adjust pace for wind, rain and temperature on race day; the monthly historical sample is not a race-morning forecast.
