Why this race belongs on a competitive runner's shortlist
Valencia suits runners seeking a low-relief half through the historic center and waterfront. The 2026 circuit uses Avinguda dels Tarongers for both start and finish, with Torres de Serranos and the Arts and Sciences area giving the middle and later sections different settings. The organizer-linked Strava route models 69 m of cumulative climbing. That total is separate from the organizer's 16.7 m altitude range. The practical tradeoff is advance planning: no Sunday bib pickup is allowed, and bag drop requires a reservation that is already sold out.
Course overview
The October 2026 road circuit starts and finishes at separate points on Avinguda dels Tarongers. It heads through L'Horta Nord toward Hermanos Machado and Guadalaviar, then follows the upper Turia edge toward Pérez Galdós, Guillem de Castro and Torres de Serranos. Carrer de la Pau and Xàtiva precede Pont de la Mar and the Arts and Sciences area. The port and El Cabanyal lead toward Fausto Elio and the westward Tarongers finish. The terrain rises modestly toward the upper river edge before lower waterfront running and a smaller finish rise.
0 to 6 km: Tarongers and the northern approach
Avinguda dels Tarongers leads through L'Horta Nord, Hermanos Machado and Guadalaviar toward the upper Turia edge. The linked model generally rises here, with approximate model-position heights around 7.9 to 17.9 m. These are not organizer-surveyed kilometer checkpoints. Control the early effort rather than treating the low-relief course as uniformly downhill. The October map places Aquabona water and Aquarius at approximately 5.4 km. Use it for the practiced drink schedule rather than adding unfamiliar intake before the historic-center turn.
6 to 11 km: The upper Turia edge and Serranos
Pérez Galdós, Guillem de Castro and Blanqueries lead toward Torres de Serranos. The approximate model-position envelope is 15.6 to 22.0 m, including the model's small central maximum; it is not a sustained large hill. Hold effort through the turns and accept small split changes. The current map places water and Aquarius at approximately 10.4 km, while the course prose says 10.0 km. Keep that discrepancy in the plan instead of expecting an exact marker, and carry fuel if your schedule cannot tolerate the difference.
11 to 16 km: Central streets and Pont de la Mar
Carrer de la Pau and the central-city turn lead through Xàtiva and Pont de la Mar toward the Arts and Sciences area. The linked model shows modest fluctuations followed by lower ground, with approximate heights around 11.1 to 19.9 m. Conserve across the turns and crossing instead of accelerating at every opening. Enervit gels, with and without caffeine, are listed at approximately 15.2 km; water and Aquarius follow at approximately 15.5 km on the map. Choose only the gel option that matches training.
16 km to 21.1 km: The waterfront and Tarongers finish
The Arts and Sciences area leads toward the port and El Cabanyal before Fausto Elio and the Tarongers return. The model reaches lower waterfront ground, with an approximate final-section envelope around 2.8 to 11.3 m and a smaller finish rise. Increase only if breathing remains controlled after the earlier turns and supply stop. Water and Aquarius are at approximately 19.4 km on the October map. Take the drink you need before the westward finish approach; finish refreshments do not replace an on-course fueling decision.
Elevation checkpoints and how to read them
The organizer-linked Strava route models 69 m of cumulative ascent for the current Tarongers course. Its processing method is not disclosed. The organizer profile separately gives 1.6 m minimum and 18.3 m maximum, a 16.7 m altitude range; those figures are not cumulative climbing and differ from the model's heights. The stored model distance is 21.3076 km and its coordinate trace is 21.4060 km, versus the certified 21.0975 km. Treat interval model heights as approximate planning guidance. The upper Turia rise, lower waterfront section and smaller finish rise explain where effort changes occur.
Aid stations and race-day logistics
The October map gives approximate water and Aquarius positions at 5.4, 10.4, 15.5 and 19.4 km, with Enervit gels at 15.2. Course prose gives the second drink point as 10.0 km, so allow for that discrepancy. Collect the bib at Feria Valencia on October 23 or 24, 09:00 to 21:00; Sunday pickup is prohibited. Organizer-package shuttle transfers apply only to participating hotels more than 2 km away. Bag drop requires prior reservation and is already sold out, so arrange belongings before heading to Tarongers. Use the bib-assigned wave rather than assuming the first 08:25 start applies to everyone.
Practical pacing plan
Control the northern approach and accept a small split change as the model rises toward the upper Turia edge. Conserve through Torres de Serranos and Pont de la Mar while keeping planned intake ahead of the waterfront. Increase through El Cabanyal only if breathing and stride remain comfortable for the Tarongers return. October warmth or port-side wind can spend reserve even on low-relief roads, so adjust the target before the final supply point.
Historical weather pattern
October weather history around Valencia shows typical daily temperatures of 58.9 to 81.7 F, daily mean winds of 3.2 to 8.6 mph, and at least 1 mm of rain on 20.0 percent of days. Conditions can change, so check the race-week forecast before travel and again on race morning.
