Why this race belongs on a competitive runner's shortlist

A low-climbing two-lap city marathon through Košice, with St. Elisabeth's Cathedral, Marathon Memorial and Anička Park marked on its current official map. The organizer publishes 74 m total ascent and a 16.35 m elevation range, offering a concrete even-pacing prospect; the repeated circuit trades route variety for familiarity. It suits runners targeting steady effort on a low-climbing city circuit.

Course overview

Two practically identical asphalt city laps through the northern park and southern urban circuit. The start is Hlavná Street and the finish is Hlavná Street. The route takes in St. Elisabeth's Cathedral, Komenského, Anička Park, Južná trieda, Watsonova. The organizer publishes 74 m cumulative ascent across a near-level circuit within a 16.35 m altitude envelope.

0 to 10 km: Hlavná to Jantárová

The 0 to 10 km interval includes Hlavná, St. Elisabeth's Cathedral, Komenského, Anička Park, Jantárová. The organizer describes the complete asphalt city circuit as lacking significant climbs; every point in this interval lies within the whole-course envelope of 200.700 to 217.050 m. No separate segment ascent is published. The first circuit has the two-sided refreshment station around 5 km by Anička and another near 10 km on Jantárová, with water, energy drink and food tables. Choose a table early rather than cutting across runners. Use the small elevation envelope for even effort; do not accelerate with the dense Hlavná crowd before the northern park loop.

10 to 21.0975 km: Southern loop and Hlavná return

The 10 to 21.0975 km interval includes Južná trieda, Rastislavova, Moyzesova, Watsonova, Hlavná. The organizer describes the complete asphalt city circuit as lacking significant climbs; every point in this interval lies within the whole-course envelope of 200.700 to 217.050 m. No separate segment ascent is published. Food/drink station is marked around 15 km on Rastislavova and near 20 km on Hlavná, with intermediate water-only points. Carry gels if needed; the organizer does not promise gels. Use the southern direction changes to check effort, then keep the Watsonova to Hlavná return controlled because the finish area is only halfway.

21.0975 to 32 km: Second northern circuit

The 21.0975 to 32 km interval includes Hlavná, Komenského, Anička Park, Jantárová. The organizer describes the complete asphalt city circuit as lacking significant climbs; every point in this interval lies within the whole-course envelope of 200.700 to 217.050 m. No separate segment ascent is published. The same physical stations recur: Anička is explicitly described as the 26 km two-sided station and Jantárová lies around 31 km. Water, energy drink and food are supplied, with water again behind the food table. Repeat the northern circuit at the effort established on lap one; do not force an identical split into a changed wind.

32 to 42.195 km: Southern return to Hlavná

The 32 to 42.195 km interval includes Južná trieda, Rastislavova, Watsonova, Komenského, Hlavná. The organizer describes the complete asphalt city circuit as lacking significant climbs; every point in this interval lies within the whole-course envelope of 200.700 to 217.050 m. No separate segment ascent is published. The repeated Rastislavova station falls around 36 km and Hlavná around 41 km on the map. Use the earlier point for remaining fuel and the later point for a small drink if needed. Build effort only after the last southern loop if still controlled; the Watsonova/Komenského return gives familiar landmarks before the Hlavná finish.

Elevation checkpoints and how to read them

Total ascent is 74 m. Organizer-published cumulative total for the entire 42.195 km marathon in current 2026 Slovak regulations; not a sum of raw GPX noise. The organizer does not publish individual segment gains or exact locations of high and low points. No major climb is identified on either city lap; the organizer describes the whole circuit as without substantial elevation changes and confines it to a 16.35 m elevation band.

Aid stations and race-day logistics

Drink-station spacing is approximate. First lap approximately 5 km Anička, 10 km Jantárová, 15 km Rastislavova, 20 km Hlavná; repeated second-lap stations approximately 26, 31, 36, 41 km: Water and energy drink in cups; bananas, lemon, sugar, salt and protein bars at last tables; another water table behind food. Water-only sponging points between full stations. The start is Hlavná Street, in front of Double Tree by Hilton hotel. 9:00 start on 4 October 2026. Enter from south side of Námestie Osloboditeľov, with valid bib; sectors open no later than 08:30. Kulturpark bag drop is connected to the start by the organizer's mapped walking/warm-up corridor along Štúrova. Public transport is diverted approximately 07:00 to 15:30; Senný trh, Námestie Osloboditeľov and Dom umenia stops are not served. Do not plan to alight at the start-adjacent Námestie Osloboditeľov stop. Kulturpark storage 07:30 to 16:00, with a bag provided by storage staff.

Practical pacing plan

Hold a sustainable effort. Run Hlavná and Komenského at sustainable effort despite the central crowd; the near-level circuit gives little reason for an opening surge. Keep Anička Park and the first southern loop economical. Use the repeat physical aid stations as a planned fuel routine, not a reason to brake suddenly. After the last Južná trieda out-and-back, lift effort gradually through Rastislavova and Watsonova only if form is stable; return on Komenského and Hlavná to finish. Push only while effort and form remain controlled. Adjust for the verified race-week wind and temperature. The 74 m total climb favors even effort, but the two laps can expose runners to the same headwind twice.
