## Why this race belongs on a competitive runner's shortlist

A large urban half through central Barcelona and the Mediterranean waterfront, with 40,000 2027 entries sold out and 30 pacers spanning ten advertised finish targets. The 2026 course had 71 m organizer-published ascent, making performance-oriented pacing plausible, but 25 corners and the rising opening kilometers require more care than the word flat suggests. It suits runners combining a half-marathon time goal with a city visit. The 2027 date is verified; the detailed route, 71 m total ascent and aid positions below refer to the official 2026 racebook. Final 2027 course and stations are not yet confirmed. The course includes Passeig de Picasso and Avinguda del Paral·lel.

## Course overview

2026 near-loop urban road course, with different start and finish streets beside Parc de la Ciutadella. The start is Passeig de Picasso and the finish is Passeig de Pujades. The route takes in Passeig de Picasso, Avinguda del Paral·lel, Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes, Arc de Triomf, Carrer del Perú, Avinguda Diagonal, Mediterranean waterfront, Passeig de Pujades. Early gradual rise inland, descent back toward the eastern districts, low waterfront running, then a slight final rise; interval elevations are modeled.

## 0 to 5 km

The 0 to 5 km interval includes Passeig de Picasso, Avinguda del Paral·lel, Carrer Sepúlveda, Gran Via. Go&Race modeled profile rises from 13 m at the start to 39 m at km 4, then 34 m at km 5; km 2 to 4 are the clearest sustained opening rise. 2026 official station at km 5 offers water and Aquarius; approach the Gran Via tables without accelerating into the opening climb. Let pace soften on Paral·lel and the inland rise, then return to target effort approaching Gran Via.

## 5 to 10 km

The 5 to 10 km interval includes Gran Via, Carrer de Bailèn, Arc de Triomf, Carrer Pallars, Carrer de la Llacuna. Modeled altitude is 34 m at km 5 and 11 m at km 10, with the largest descent between km 7 and km 9. 2026 km 10 station offers water, Aquarius and Finisher Endurance gels; use it after the downhill rather than rushing the corner. Use the Bailèn/Arc de Triomf descent to recover the opening loss gradually, and take the Pallars turns cleanly.

## 10 to 15 km

The 10 to 15 km interval includes Carrer del Perú, Carrer de Josep Pla, Rambla de Prim, Avinguda Diagonal. Go&Race models low undulations through km 10 to 15, roughly 8 to 15 m; altitude at both km 10 and km 15 is 11 m. Official 2026 km 15 station offers water, isotonic drink and Finisher gels; the current FAQ independently confirms Finisher gels at km 15. Maintain effort through the Diagonal out-and-back and avoid repeated surges at the turns.

## 15 to 21.0975 km

The 15 to 21.0975 km interval includes Passeig del Taulat, Passeig de Garcia Fària, Avinguda Litoral, Carrer de la Marina, Passeig de Pujades. The model falls to 6 m at km 19 and rises to 16 m at km 21; the waterfront is lower than the final Marina/Pujades approach. 2026 km 17.5 station supplies water, Aquarius and Finisher gels; the finish supplies water, Vitamin Well and fruit. Hold a sustainable effort along the exposed waterfront, then reserve enough for the modeled late rise into Marina and Pujades.

## Elevation checkpoints and how to read them

Total ascent is 71 m. Organizer-published total for the 2026 course in Racebook page 10; +37 m km 0 to 10 and +34 m km 10 to 21.097. Interval altitude figures separately use Go&Race modeled analysis; do not sum rounded interval figures into the official total. The modeled longest opening rise is km 2 to 4 on the inland section. The strongest modeled descent is km 7 to 9; km 19 to 21 gently rises away from the waterfront.

## Aid stations and race-day logistics

2026 km 5: Water and Aquarius. 2026 km 10: Water, Aquarius, Finisher Endurance gel. 2026 km 15: Water, isotonic drink, Finisher Endurance gel. 2026 km 17.5: Water, Aquarius, Finisher Endurance gel. 2026 km 21.0975: Finish: water, Vitamin Well, fruit. The start is Passeig de Picasso. 2026 start/corral map names Metro Arc de Triomf beside the approach; current page confirms staggered starts based on expected pace. 2027 exact wave times not published in the inspected current course page; do not reuse the 2026 08:30 to 10:20 timetable as 2027. Current page: A at Passeig Picasso for elite/sub-elite/yellow/red; B at Plaçeta Vicenç Albert Ballester for blue; C at Estació del Nord for remaining colors. Wear bib and label the bag; no showers.

## Practical pacing plan

Hold a sustainable effort. Keep effort controlled on the inland rise from Paral·lel toward Sepúlveda rather than banking seconds before Gran Via. Allow a gradual pace recovery on the Bailèn/Arc de Triomf descent, then maintain rhythm on Pallars and Diagonal without surging through turns. Keep reserve through the seafront section for the small modeled rise on Marina and into the Pujades finish. Push only while effort and form remain controlled. Use the race-week wind forecast for the exposed waterfront; the historical monthly sample must not be treated as start-time weather.

## Historical weather pattern

February history for Barcelona, Spain gives a typical daily temperature range of 39.6 to 65 degrees Fahrenheit, daily maximum sustained winds of 5.8 to 14.5 mph, and at least 1 mm of rain on 25.8 percent of days. Historical conditions can change, so check the race-week forecast before travel and again on race morning.
