## Why this race belongs on a competitive runner's shortlist

Berlin Half suits half marathon PB attempts that also want a finish through Brandenburg Gate. Its small elevation changes and long road sections past the Victory Column make sustained pace realistic, while around 40 music groups provide course support. The tradeoff is that the bends through Charlottenburg and City West can disrupt rhythm; a flat course still rewards patient positioning.

## Course overview

This 21.0975 km city circuit starts on Straße des 17. Juni near the Victory Column and finishes after Brandenburg Gate on the same road, at a different point. It heads west to Charlottenburg Palace, turns along Kurfürstendamm, crosses Potsdamerbrücke and runs past Gendarmenmarkt toward Alexanderplatz. The return follows Unter den Linden. The elevation changes are small and spread along the route.

## 0 to 5 km: Victory Column to Charlottenburg

Pass the Victory Column and follow Otto-Suhr-Allee toward Charlottenburg Palace. The organizer gives these checkpoints as 33.6 m, 36.6 m and 33 m, respectively, so the opening has small rises and drops rather than a sustained climb. Keep effort steady through the turns. Water, tea and Maurten Drink Mix at 5 km give you an early hydration option; stick with a drink you have practiced.

## 5 to 10 km: Ku'damm and the City West

Turn through Droysenstraße onto Kurfürstendamm, then continue toward Tauentzienstraße. The Droysenstraße and Ku'damm elevation checkpoint is 36.5 m. Avoid chasing speed as the road straightens after the bends. Water and tea are listed at 9.8 km. If you normally take a gel before the halfway point, carry it rather than relying on the later course depot.

## 10 to 15 km: Potsdamerbrücke to Gendarmenmarkt

Cross Potsdamerbrücke at the organizer's 37.1 m checkpoint, pass Potsdamer Platz and head toward Gendarmenmarkt at 33.8 m. Hold effort over the bridge and let the slight drop return your pace without forcing it. The 12.3 km Maurten gel depot has no water. The next water, tea and banana station is at 14.1 km, so pair a gel with your own water if needed.

## 15 to 21.0975 km: Alexanderplatz and Brandenburg Gate

The route runs through Alexanderplatz and Karl-Marx-Allee before returning along Unter den Linden to Brandenburg Gate. The organizer labels Alexanderplatz at 37.3 m and the finish at 34.4 m. Keep the effort even through the turn back toward the centre, then press on the final straight if breathing remains controlled. At 17.5 km there is water, tea, banana and Maurten Drink Mix; 19.5 km has water.

## Elevation checkpoints and how to read them

RoutePrinter gives a modeled total ascent of 33 m for its stored route; YOUB reports 99 m, so cumulative gain depends strongly on the model. Neither is an organizer-certified 2027 total. Use the official checkpoints to judge effort: the rise on Otto-Suhr-Allee, Potsdamerbrücke and the later rise toward Alexanderplatz are small. The 33 m to 37.3 m checkpoint range is a different measure from total climbing.

## Aid stations and race-day logistics

Water and tea are listed at 5, 9.8, 14.1 and 17.5 km; 19.5 km has water. Maurten Drink Mix is at 5 and 17.5 km, gels without water at 12.3 km, and bananas at 14.1 and 17.5 km. The 2027 start is on Straße des 17. Juni, with running waves from 10:05. The 2026 briefing lists Hauptbahnhof and Brandenburger Tor train stations and access by Scheidemannstraße; treat those as a planning reference until the 2027 briefing appears. Bag drop requires the prebooked transparent clothing bag; poncho entrants cannot drop clothes.

## Practical pacing plan

Control your opening past the Victory Column and the turns in Charlottenburg. Hold effort over Potsdamerbrücke, then return to your planned rhythm as the route drops toward Gendarmenmarkt. Save the sustained push for Unter den Linden and Brandenburg Gate after the Karl-Marx-Allee turn. A headwind on these long streets calls for steady effort rather than a forced split; April temperature swings also affect how much pace you can sustain.

## Historical weather pattern

April weather history around Berlin shows typical daily temperatures of 34.5 to 66.6 F, daily mean winds of 4.5 to 11.8 mph, and at least 1 mm of precipitation on 31 percent of days. Conditions can change, so check the race-week forecast before travel and again on race morning.
