## Why this race belongs on a competitive runner's shortlist

29 km of beachside running according to organizer. Low-relief course suited to a personal-best attempt. Broadwater Parklands start/finish precinct. Exposed shore sections and small bridge rises reward disciplined effort; 2027 operational details remain pending. It suits runners combining a marathon time goal with a beach destination. The 2027 date is confirmed; route, aid and transport below use the 2026 reference. The elevation panel is the organizer-republished 2025 model, pending final 2027 confirmation. The course includes Sundale Bridge and The Spit.

## Course overview

Three coastal out-and-back legs on the 2026 reference route The start is Gold Coast Highway east start line near Nerang Street, Southport and the finish is Eastern side of Gold Coast Aquatic Centre, between pool complex and Broadwater. The route takes in Sundale Bridge, The Spit, Surfers Paradise, Broadbeach, Miami, Southport, Biggera Waters, Broadwater Parklands. ## 0 to 10 km: Southport, The Spit and Surfers Paradise

The 0 to 10 km interval includes Sundale Bridge near 1 km, The Spit turn approximately 4.6 km, Surfers Paradise Esplanade around 8 to 10 km. Small early bridge rise, followed by low-relief beachfront roads Water nominal 2.5 and 7.5 km; water/Fuel X nominal 5 km (approximately 5.4 km). Settle effort and keep the early bridge from pulling pace too fast.

## 10 to 20 km: Broadbeach to Miami and the south turn

The 10 to 20 km interval includes Broadbeach near 12 km, Mermaid Beach, Miami turn approximately 17.35 km. Predominantly flat coastal section within the official 1 to 10 m overall profile Water/Fuel X approximately 10.4 and 15.8 km, water nominal 12.5 and 17.5 km; refreshment 20 km. Hold sustainable effort and turn smoothly rather than banking time.

## 20 to 31 km: Northbound beaches back over Sundale Bridge

The 20 to 31 km interval includes Broadbeach return, Surfers Paradise return, Sundale Bridge near 30 km. Largely level return with the small Sundale Bridge rise near 30 km Water nominal 22.5 and 27.5 km; Fuel X/water 25 km; limited gels plus water/Fuel X nominal 30 km (approximately 30.7 km). Keep effort constant up the bridge; do not depend on the late gel table.

## 31 to 42.195 km: Broadwater, Biggera Waters and the finish

The 31 to 42.195 km interval includes Labrador, Biggera Waters turn approximately 36.65 km, Broadwater Parklands. Flat shore running interrupted by short creek bridges; no major late climb in the officialprofile Water nominal 32.5 and 37.5 km; water/Fuel X approximately 35.2 and 40.5 km. Preserve form through the north turn, then build only if effort remains controlled.

## Elevation checkpoints and how to read them

Total ascent is 62 m. Organizer-published 2025 course elevation panel labels GAIN 62 m, LOSS 65 m, MIN 1 m, MAX 10 m and credits FindMyMarathon; current 2027 race page still publishes 62 m. Treat as an organizer-republished route-model figure, not surveyed road-deck measurement. The 2026 independent route guide also reports the same official panel. No new GPX calculation. Net -3 m calculated gain minus loss. Preserve the original map edition. Small Sundale Bridge rises near 1 km and 30 km on the 2026 route Beach sections largely level Two short creek bridges in each direction on the final Broadwater leg

Arrive at precinct 1 hour before start and zone 20 minutes before. Do not transfer 2026 rail closures to 2027. Road closures affect Southport and beachfront; Davenport Street north of Windmill Street was the 2026 drop-off, with access via Nerang Street and exit via Nind Street. 2026 collection at Gold Coast Convention & Exhibition Centre in Broadbeach, before race morning. Recheck 2027 opening hours. 2026 bag-drop lawn behind presentation stage,05:00 to 14:00 Sunday, official bag marked with name/race number; collect from race-specific tent. Recheck 2027 timetable.

## Practical pacing plan

Hold a sustainable effort over Sundale Bridge and toward The Spit turn. Check effort at Sundale Bridge near 1 km. Hold sustainable effort and turn smoothly rather than banking time. Keep effort constant up the bridge; do not depend on the late gel table. Keep form controlled around Biggera Waters and push gradually toward Broadwater Parklands only if effort permits. Push only while effort and form remain controlled. Use Broadwater Parklands as the closing landmark. Wind affects open beach and Broadwater roads, and rain changes grip at the turns. July daily temperatures are not a race-morning forecast; adapt effort to the event-week conditions.

## Historical weather pattern

July history for Gold Coast, Australia gives a typical daily temperature range of 47 to 73.5 degrees Fahrenheit, daily maximum sustained winds of 5.8 to 13.2 mph, and at least 1 mm of rain on 18.4 percent of days. Historical conditions can change, so check the race-week forecast before travel and again on race morning.
